What is staff health insurance?

At the same time, health insurance the most valuable bonus for the employees offered by the employers in the labour market within the framework of social guarantee, motivation and loyalty promotion programmes.

At their own discretion, employers can include in the BTA health insurance policy protection mandatory health examinations, patient contribution and paid medical services compensation both in outpatient and inpatient institutions, optics acquisition, dental service compensation, rehabilitation, sports and other medical service compensation.

For staff, a health insurance policy is important financial support not only taking care of their health on a daily basis, but also a guarantee that, in the event of serious illness, they will not have to ask for financial help from their employer to cover the medical expenses.

What tax relief can the company receive?

By acquiring staff health insurance, pursuant to the regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia, the company can receive the following tax relief:

  • the corporate income tax is not imposed on the insurance premium, which means the company can reduce its taxable revenue by the insurance premium payments;
  • the insurance premium payment is not subject to personal income tax, if the insurance premium does not exceed 10% of the gross annual salary of the insured and does not exceed EUR 426.86;
  • Insurance premiums are not included in the mandatory social insurance contribution object, if the insurance premium does not exceed 10% of the gross annual salary of the insured and does not exceed EUR 426.86.

What services can be included in BTA staff health insurance?

Each employer can choose, based on what the employer expects and can afford – to what extent to include various services; for instance, he can include partially or completely compensated paid medical services, can set a particular limit or amount to what extent certain services included in the policy can be used, etc.

Basic Programmes:  
Ambulatory diagnostics and treatment in the amount of the state mandatory patient contribution
Patient contributions are the payments to be covered by the patient when receiving the state paid health care services. The amount of the payment contributions is determined by the regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia.
Outpatient paid services
Doctor specialist consultations, laboratory and instrumental examinations, medical manipulations (injections, joint blockades, punctures), health examinations for receipt of medical confirmations, annual mandatory employee health examinations, etc.
Vaccination
For instance, vaccination against tick-bone encephalitis, flu, etc.
Home visits
Calling the medical personnel for a home visit.
Outpatient rehabilitation
Physical therapy, massage, medical gymnastics, water procedures, etc.
Inpatient diagnostics and treatment in the amount of the state mandatory patient contribution
Patient contributions are the payments to be covered by the patient when receiving the state paid health care services. The amount of the payment contributions is determined by the regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia.
Inpatient paid services
Examinations appointed by the attending physician, medical treatment and operations outside the financing quotas determined by the state and queues, increased service accommodations.
Emergency service
State and private emergency medical aid services.
Paid childbirth (services related to pregnancy and childbirth)
Services related to pregnancy and childbirth.

 

Additional Programmes:  
Purchase of medicaments
Provides for acquisition of medicaments at a 50% or 70% discount for outpatient treatment, based on the doctor’s prescription.
Optics
Provides for acquisition of optical appliances at discount, including: a visit to an eye doctor or optometrist, correction of vision with optical lenses, acquisition of optical appliances - frames of glasses with optical lenses or optical contact lenses
Dentistry
Provides for dental services at discount, including: oral hygiene services, first aid in case of toothaches, therapeutic and surgical dental services, treatment of periodontal diseases, X-rays necessary for diagnostics.
Inpatient rehabilitation
Provides for the possibility to receive services with discount that are related to medical rehabilitation and stays in rehabilitation institutions.
Sports
Provides for sports exercises (swimming pool, body-building, aerobics and other sports exercises, including yoga, callanetics, etc.). 
Psychosomatics
Covers psychotherapist services: diagnostics or evaluation visits and therapy visits including crisis psychotherapy visits. 

What is the policy validity territory?

The validity territory of the health insurance policy is the Republic of Latvia.

If the company’s employees often go on business trips abroad and the employer wants to ensure that the employees’ medical expenses, due to sudden illness or injuries, are covered outside the territory of the Republic of Latvia, we recommend acquiring BTA Travel Insurance.
