What is Recreational activities policy for?

When your hobby is both active and attractive, then anyone can have an unfortunate fall, the purchased equipment as well is not safe from a fall that may damage it. Also keep in mind that thieves are always on alert to snatch equipment they have spotted and marked on their wish-list. No one can really run and hide from these nasty occasions, but we can protect you from unexpected expenses, in a way that will quickly get you back to your favorite kind of sports.

The offer is open to private individuals and not valid for professional athletes, participating in competitions or training, the offer also excludes sports equipment – hockey sticks, skateboard deck and kiteboard sail, if the loss is less than 10% of the total value of the sail. Insurance protection will also be not in effect when activities involve jumping from heights, car racing, motorsports, martial sports, scuba-diving, gliding, paragliding, downhill, freestyle, BMX or trial biking.

What types of cover are included in Recreational activities policy?

BTA Recreational activities policy includes insurance covers in three main lines of risk types:

  • Property insurance – we insure your sports equipment (includes the following risks – total destruction or theft of equipment, its damages*, including in cases of fire or natural disasters);
  • Personal accident insurance – we insure you (includes the following risks – injuries, medical expenses in the entire Baltic region, disability, death);
  • Civil liability insurance – we insure your liability, in case you by accident happen to hurt others or damage their property (includes the following risks – harm caused to life or health of third parties, damage done to property of third parties, litigation costs, rescue expenses). Civil liability insurance will help in situations, when during recreational activities (like skateboarding, wakeboarding, kitesurfing, skiing or snowboarding) you happen to cause losses to other persons and their equipment.

*In order to receive insurance indemnity for damages of your sports equipment, by all means, keep the repair shop payment documents.

What are the risks to be insured against?

Death
If death occurs during validity period of insurance contract or within one year after the accident when using recreational equipment, indemnity amounting to 100% will be paid to the person – beneficiary indicated in the insurance policy.

Loss of labour capacity
In case disablement and/or mutilation occurs as result of an accident during the effective period of the insurance contract or within one year of the accident, we shall pay the indemnity in the amount of up to 100 %.

Injuries
A percentage will be paid (from 0.5% to 100% depending on the severity of injury) of the sum insured for the risk for different injuries suffered while using recreational equipment, such as bone fractures, dislocations, loss of teeth, and other injuries.

Medical expenses
Expenses for medical manipulations administered and prescribed by an attending physician and related to inpatient or outpatient treatment, expenses for x-ray diagnostics and operations, purchase of medications and dressing materials prescribed by a physician, rehabilitation, medical transport to the nearest medical establishment. Expenses for medical services received in medical establishments registered with the register of medical establishments, companies and places of practice of Latvia, Lithuania or Estonia.

Total destruction or theft
We will pay the indemnity, if your recreational equipment is totally destroyed as a result of risks of fire, liquid or steam leakage, or natural disaster, as well as if the recreational equipment is stolen from your house or outside it. The cover to of bicycle theft risk is valid, provided the bicycle has been registered with the Bicycle Register of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate.

Damages
If your recreational equipment is damaged as a result of sudden, unexpected external circumstances, such as collision with another bicycle, vehicle, barrier, pedestrian, animal or other object, once during the insurance period we will indemnify expenses related to repair of the recreational equipment after receipt of the documents certifying payment for repairs. No indemnity will be provided for damaged painting of the recreational equipment, abrasions or scratches of its metal parts, as well as additional bicycle equipment, such as lights, video equipment, children seats, bicycle radars, holders etc.

Damage caused to the health or life of another person
Death, incapacity for work, temporary incapacity for work, physical injury or illness of another person, for instance, if you injure another person during active recreation.
   
Damage caused to the property of another person
Damage to or loss of property owned or legally used by another person, for instance, if you accidentally damage another person property, for example, equipment, phone or another or any other object, thing or property.
   
Rescue expenses
Expenses related to urgent measures to prevent or reduce the damages.
   
Litigation expenses 
Coordinated court and matter settlement expenses incurred in relation to consideration and adjustment of the claim submitted by another person against you, for instance, if we insisted that you have not become liable, while another person persistently continues to request loss compensation from you and suit you in court, then we will indemnify such litigation and matter settlement expenses, if they were agreed with us previously.
   

What is the effective area and duration of the policy?

BTA Recreational activities policy is effective in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Insurance protection is in effect 24 hours a day.

Purchase of policy

BTA Recreational activities policy may be purchased in one of the following manners:

  • By completing the application form on the BTA home page, then a BTA specialist will contact you, prepare an insurance offer on the basis of your detailed information, and send it to the e-mail address you have indicated;
  • By calling BTA Customer Support Service at (+371) 26 12 12 12. It is also possible to pay for the insurance policy during the call;
  • By visiting any BTA Customer Service Centre in person;
  • By contacting BTA agents, insurance brokers.

What should you do in case an accident has occurred?

In case of an accident, the following should be done:

  1. to conduct rescue works and to register the circumstances and cause of the accident, immediately contact the appropriate rescue service or institution:
    • in case you or another person has sustained an injury, seek medical assistance immediately, in case of necessity call the ambulance at 113 or 03;
    • in case you have established that your equipment has been stolen, immediately notify the police at 110 or 02;
    • in case another person has been injured or another person’s property has been damaged, put down that person’s data;
  2. when receiving any medical services, keep the document confirming the fact of the accident and its consequences, such as a medical certificate issued by the doctor, containing the diagnosis, or a detailed medical description of the injury, and also keep the documents confirming the payments you have made (such as cash receipts, payment receipts, specifying your name, surname, personal number, and the name of the service received) for the medical services you have received;
  3. as soon as possible, contact the BTA Customer Service by calling 26 12 12 12, to inform about the accident, receive instructions on how to proceed, and also to register your insured event.
