According to the requirements of Cabinet Regulation No. 591 “Regulations of Health Insurance for Foreigners”, a foreigner – a person who is not a Latvian citizen or Latvian non-citizen, when requesting a short-term, long-term visa or a residence permit, must submit a health insurance policy that is valid in the territory of the Republic of Latvia and Member States of the Schengen Agreement where the visa is valid. Under health insurance for foreigners, BTA offers either the minimum required protection that covers medical expenses and transportation to the home country in accordance with the regulatory enactments, or extended protection that covers various additional risks.

Insurance covers the expenses associated with the provision of emergency medical assistance, in case an accident or a sudden illness has occurred, including emergency medical aid, costs of purchasing drugs prescribed by the doctor, emergency surgery and medical procedures, as well as expenses transportation to the hospital. Insurance also covers the costs of phone calls, made to contact BTA or BTA cooperation partners regarding purchasing or lease of the temporarily necessary medical aids.

|Emergency dental services||
The insurance covers the expenses for the acquisition of painkillers, temporary measures in tooth treatment (X-rays, administering medication, temporary seal or tooth extraction).
Transportation of the mortal remains to the domicile country. Coordinating in writing, the repatriation expenses can be replaced by burial expenses abroad, including coffin costs.

The insurance covers the expenses for the transportation determined by the doctor from the inpatient hospital in Latvia to the inpatient hospital in the home country.

|Expenses of a person accompanying the injured person||
When necessary, the insurance also covers the medical personnel expenses, if the return to the home country - medical evacuation - cannot happen without being accompanied by a doctor or nurse.

|Accident resulting in mutilation or death||
If the person dies or is mutilated due to the accident, the insurance indemnity will be paid in the amount specified in the insurance contract.
Indemnity will cover, in the defined amount, losses caused due to the customer's fault to health, life or property of a third party and the litigation expenses
The foreigner health insurance policy protection is valid in the territory of Latvia and Member States of the Schengen Agreement where the visa issued to the foreigner is valid.
Depending on the planned period of stay, the foreigner health insurance policy can be valid from one to 365 days.
Mind that the validity period of the foreigner health insurance policy cannot be less than the period the person expects to stay in the Republic of Latvia or the territory of the Republic of Latvia and one of the Member States of the Schengen Agreement. When arranging the visa for a short-trip to Latvia, an additional 15 days must be added to the expected period so that the total number of insured days is 15 days more than the expected short-term trip to Latvia. This is a requirement of Latvian embassies to be entitled to get a visa.
When applying for the multiple-entry visa, a foreigner is required to submit the foreigner health insurance policy for the period of the first stay; however, for every next stay the foreigner health insurance policy must be also acquired.
