When choosing a Travel Insurance programme, you should take into account the potential risk probability in your destination. Programmes with a broader coverage of risks provide larger sums insured for each of the risks included in the programmes, therefore, going further abroad, we recommend you to choose a programme with a broader risk coverage. Insurance covers the expenses associated with the provision of emergency medical assistance abroad, in case an accident or a sudden illness has occurred during the trip, including emergency medical aid, costs of purchasing drugs prescribed by the doctor, emergency surgery and medical procedures, as well as expenses transportation to the hospital (in emergency cases also including the use of medical helicopter services). If the client is hospitalized due to a sudden illness or a personal accident, and cannot return to the domicile country in the scheduled time, the cost of purchasing new tickets or changing tickets will be reimbursed. Insurance also covers the costs of phone calls, made to contact BTA or BTA cooperation partners regarding purchasing or lease of the temporarily necessary medical aids, transportation costs for taking a minor child to the domicile country, when the client is hospitalized. Only for Gold and VIP programme members, losses incurred as a result of a terrorist act in the territory of Europe will be reimbursed.
According to the sum indicated in the Insurance Agreement, covers expenses for the purchase of painkillers, temporary measures of dental treatment (x-ray, medications, temporary tooth fillings or tooth extraction).
Transportation of the mortal remains to the domicile country. Coordinating in writing, the repatriation expenses can be replaced by burial expenses abroad, including coffin costs.
Covers expenses for transportation prescribed by a doctor from the hospital abroad to a hospital in the country of domicile.
|Expenses of a person accompanying the injured person||
In case of necessity, insurance also covers the expenses of medical staff, when returning to the domicile – medical evacuation – cannot be accomplished without attendance of a doctor or a nurse. With doctor’s permission, the health care worker may be replaced by a family member, traveling with the client.
|Loss or theft of passport or ID-card||
According to the sum indicated in the Insurance Agreement, covers transportation, accommodation costs (hotel, food) incurred due to renewal of passport or ID-card abroad, as well as telephone conversations related to the renewal of the passport or ID-card.
|Accident resulting in mutilation
If the accident results in death or mutilations, indemnity will be paid according to the sum indicated in the Insurance Agreement.
|Cancellation of travel||
In case of a sudden severe illness, occurrence of a personal accident and other cases specified in the insurance contract, which disable you from going on a scheduled trip, to a certain amount will be reimbursed the expenses for travel vouchers, purchased tickets, paid hotel.
Only to Gold and VIP programme members, losses will also be compensated, in case the primary goal of the trip has been a visit of an open public concert, which has got cancelled. Also only to Gold and VIP programme members, losses will be compensated, in case going on the scheduled trip has become improbable due to occurrence of a terrorist act at the point of travel destination in Europe.
|Loss, theft, damage or destruction of luggage||
If due to the fault of the carrier, the luggage is lost or stolen, indemnity is paid according to the actual value of the luggage; if the luggage is damaged, indemnity covers the costs for the repair or, if the repair is not possible, indemnity is paid according to the actual value of the luggage.
Covers purchase of basic necessities and hygiene products, as well as clothing appropriate for local climate; in case of delay of sports equipment, indemnity covers the rent of the sports equipment.
|Theft of luggage with Customer’s belongings||
At a certain amount covers expenses for purchase of basic necessities and objects that replace the units of the stolen luggage.
At a certain amount covers losses caused by the Customer to a third party's health, life or property, as well as the costs of court proceedings.
|Loss, theft or damage of sports equipment||
If due to the fault of the carrier, sports equipment is lost or stolen, indemnity is paid according to the actual value of the sporting equipment; if the sports equipment is damaged, indemnity covers the costs for the repair or, if the repair is not possible, indemnity is paid according to the actual value of the sports inventory.
Covers expenses for legal assistance if the Customer inadvertently has not complied with national traditions and accepted norms of behaviour, or has unintentionally violated laws regulations, thus causing losses to a third party.
|Delay, cancellation of flight, denied boarding||
Insurance covers the expenses for meals, hotel services, transfer, for ticket reprocessing or purchasing a new one, expenses for staying at a hotel at an intermediate point of the trip, for failure to arrive at the hotel booked at the travel destination, in case a delayed flight results in missing a land, water or air vehicle that was to be used at that trip.
|Missed flight because of a road traffic accident||
Covers expenses for the purchase of new tickets and hotel expenses, if you cannot manage to arrive timely at the booked and paid hotel.
|Medical expenses in country of permanent domicile||
If, after returning to the country of domicile, the treatment needs to be continued, the insurance covers expenses for medical and rehabilitation services, including costs for hospital treatment for up to 14 days, X-ray diagnostics and operations, purchase of medications and bandaging materials, as well as agreed rehabilitation procedures.
|Replacement of the Customer||
In case the customer get into hospital during travel, is evacuated or repatriated, and the employer, in order to have the customer’s professional duties abroad continued, faces a necessity to replace the customer by another person, the travel expenses of that replacing person will be refunded.
|Interruption of travel||
If due to occurrence of a family member’s death or hospitalization because of cardiac infarction or stroke the customer needs to interrupt the trip, insurance covers the expenses for reprocessing of tickets or purchasing new tickets, as well as losses arising from booked but unused hotel services.
Only for Gold and VIP programme members, insurance will reimburse for losses incurred as a result of inability to proceed with the scheduled travel due to a terrorist act at the travel destination, which is within the territory of Europe.
|Expenses for arrival of a relative in exceptional cases||
In case the customer has to stay at a hospital due to an injury or illness during the trip, and may not be transported to the domicile country, insurance will cover the expenses for travelling to and from to one family member to arrive to the hospitalized customer, as well as for the relative’s stay at a hotel.
|Theft of sports equipment while at Customer’s disposal||
Covers expenses according to the actual value of the sports equipment.
|Breakage, damage of sports equipment in case of an accident||
Covers losses according to the sum insured indicated in the policy.

For an additional cost,we can include any additional risk in any Travel Insurance programme in order to provide additional protection or to increase the sum insured for a specific risk, which is already included in the programme.
|Insurance of COVID-19||
The Insured risk is compensation of the Insured’s losses related to COVID-19 (coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 induced disease) while the Insured is on a Trip, when they are not compensated by a third party or compensated them partially. The Insured risk “Insurance of COVID-19” shall be in effect only with respect to the following Insured risks and only on provision that they are mentioned in the insurance policy: “Medical expenses”, “Repatriation”, “Medical evacuation”, “Expenses of Client’s accompanying person”.
|Sports, extreme sports, hobby+, scuba diving||
It should be noted that the policy does not automatically include physical activities and sports associated with increased risks, such as skiing, snowboarding, hockey, football, scuba diving, etc., as well as sports or hobbies if it is intended to participate in a competition. If you plan to do sports or engage in high-risk physical activity during the travel, you must choose appropriate additional protection to validate the policy.
If an accident results in a Customer's injury, a certain amount of the relevant risk sum insured is indemnified depending on the severity of the injury in case of death, 100% indemnity of the risk sum insured is paid.
|Daily hospital allowance||
When the additional cover "Sport" is selected and the customer gets into hospital for more than 24 hours as a result of sport activities, compensation will be paid in the amount established for each day spent in the hospital.
|Insurance of closed ski resorts||
If the ski resorts are closed because of thaw, snow avalanches or storms, the insurance indemnifies a certain sum for each day when skiing or snowboarding is not possible due to the closed resorts.
|Home insurance during the travel||
If, during Customer's absence, his/ her house or movable property located in the house is damaged by the fire, liquid or steam leakage, natural disasters or unlawful activities by third parties, the insurance indemnifies a certain sum for repair works and expenses for the damaged or destroyed movable property.
|Cancellation of the travel in case of job loss||
If, due to a sudden job loss, the Customer decides to cancel the trip that has already been fully paid because of a sudden job loss, losses for the missed trip will be indemnified.
|Loss, theft or damage of luggage (additional sums insured: EUR 50 or EUR 100)||
The sum insured for coverage of this specific risk can be increased at an extra charge.
The risks included in the insurance policy (medical expenses, repatriation, medical evacuation, expenses of a person accompanying the injured person, medical expenses in the country of permanent domicile, loss or theft of passport or ID-card, delay or cancellation of flight) remain in force in case of natural disasters, namely, if you incur losses due to flood, storm, fire, volcanic eruption, tsunami, earthquake, the insurace covers expenses provided in the framework of the relevant risks.
|Civil liability (additional sum insured: EUR 20 000)||
The sum insured for coverage of this specific risk can be increased at an extra charge.

You can purchase your travel insurance policy depending on the length of your planned trip or travel with a duration ranging from one day to 365 days.
If you have regular business trips, we offer to purchase a Travel insurance policy with the duration of one year, which will ensure protection of all trips during the year. In this case, you can indicate the maximum duration of each journey. Upon your choice, maximum duration of one trip may be 30, 60 or 90 days.
In case there might be a number of employees that would need to go on business trip and not always you know exactly – who in particular will it be, we offer to purchase a policy not indicating exact persons, instead insuring only a certain number of days to be used as needed.
You can purchase the travel insurance policy in the following ways:
EHIC, i.e. European Health Insurance Card, is a document common for all European Union and European Economic Area countries (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein) and the Swiss Confederation, which entitles citizens of these countries to receive state-funded emergency and necessary health care to the extent ensured for inhabitants of each relevant country. The EHIC can be used in foreign clinics that are members of the National Sickness Fund and that have accepted the usage of the EHIC. Therefore, before seeking medical care abroad, we recommend you to inquire in advance whether the relevant clinic accepts the EHIC.
All residents of the Republic of Latvia may receive the EHIC card for free, therefore, when traveling abroad, be sure to obtain the EHIC card. For more information about the possibilities of receiving the EHIC card, visit the website of the National Health Service.
Why do you need BTA Travel insurance if you have the EHIC card?
An example showing the necessity for the EHIC and Travel Insurance:
State of health of a resident of Latvia suddenly deteriorated while visiting a country in the European Union. As a result, the woman was placed in a clinic. When her health condition slightly improved and it was possible to evacuate her to her country of origin, the bill for medical services amounted to EUR 24 000.
Given that the Latvian resident had the EHIC, she did not have to pay the entire amount from her own personal funds. The EHIC covered 75% (EUR 18 000) of the medical expenses, the remaining 25% (6 000 EUR) would have to be covered by the woman herself, if she had not had the BTA travel insurance policy. Medical evacuation costs that were not covered by the EHIC amounted to EUR 4 300.
If the woman, additionally to the security provided by the EHIC, had not purchased the BTA Travel insurance, she would have to pay EUR 10 300 for the medical services received in the foreign clinic and medical evacuation to Latvia from her own personal funds. In this case, this amount was covered by BTA.
