Aircraft Crew Member Accident Insurance

What tax relief can the company receive?

By acquiring staff health insurance, pursuant to the regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia, the company can receive the following tax relief:

  • the corporate income tax is not imposed on the insurance premium, which means the company can reduce its taxable revenue by the insurance premium payments;
  • the insurance premium payment is not subject to personal income tax, if the insurance premium does not exceed 10% of the gross annual salary of the insured and does not exceed 426.86 EUR;

Insurance premiums are not included in the mandatory social insurance contribution object, if the insurance premium does not exceed 10% of the gross annual salary of the insured and does not exceed 426.86 EUR.

What persons qualify as aircraft crew members?

The following persons qualify as aircraft crew members:

  • pilots,
  • crew members,
  • student pilots,
  • instructor pilots,
  • air mechanics, technicians.

Insurable Risks

   
Death
In case death of an aircraft crew member occurs as result of an accident during the effective period of the insurance contract or within one year of the accident, we will pay 100 % of the insurance coverage. 
Disability
In case disability of an aircraft crew member occurs as result of an accident during the effective period of the insurance contract or within one year of the accident, we will pay an indemnity of up to 100 % of the insurance coverage, depending on the disability group.  
Injuries
We will pay an indemnity for the injuries suffered in an accident (one or several bone fractures, dislocations, consequences of burns/scalds, frost-bites, or injuries, consequences of acute poisoning with chemical or toxic substances), depending in the severity of the injuries.
Treatment Expenses
We will indemnify the expenses for the medical procedures performed and prescribed by the attending doctor in association with out-patient or in-patient treatment. Only the expenses for the medical services received at the medical facilities entered into the Register of Medical Institutions, Companies, and Practices of the Republic of Latvia will be indemnified. 
Medications and Bandages
We will indemnify the expenses for the medications and bandages prescribed by the attending doctor and purchased from the medical facilities entered into the Register of Medical Institutions, Companies, and Practices of the Republic of Latvia or pharmacies located in the territory of the Republic of Latvia.
Transportation Expenses
We will indemnify the expenses for the medical transport from the place of the accident to the nearest medical facility for the immediate medical care.
Daily Allowance
We will indemnify the expenses (in the amount fixed in the insurance contract) for each day of temporary incapacity if, as result of an accident, the temporary incapacity for work lasts for more than seven business days.
Hospital Fee
We will indemnify the expenses (in the amount fixed in the insurance contract) for each day spent in hospital in case the hospital treatment lasts for more than 24 consecutive hours.

What are the territory and the validity period of the policy?

The territory of the Aircraft Crew Member Accident Insurance Policy can be specified based on the preferences:

  • Latvia,
  • Europe,
  • territories of other states, subject to BTA approval.

However, please note that trips to other countries additionally require Travel Insurance. In case you suffer an injury in an accident abroad, the Aircraft Crew Member Accident Insurance will allow you to receive a compensation depending on the severity of the injury, but the expenses for the medical assistance received in a foreign country will be indemnified only if you have purchased a Travel Insurance policy. The Aircraft Crew Member Accident Insurance coverage includes only medical services received in the territory of the Republic of Latvia. 

Policy purchase options

The Aircraft Crew Member Accident Policy can be purchased using one of the below options:

  • if you fill in the application form available on BTA website, an expert of BTA’s will contact you to find out the required details and prepare the insurance proposal, and send it to your e-mail address;
  • by calling BTA Customer Support Service at 26 12 12 12. During the call, it is also possible to pay for the policy immediately;
  • by visiting a BTA Customer Service Centre in person; 
  • by contacting a BTA agent, insurance broker.
